| Botulinum Toxin Type A (BTX-A) for Migraine |
Don't Suffer from Migraines Any Longer!
Migraines are an episodic disorder with neurologic, gastrointestinal and autonomic symptoms. Over 17 percent of women and six percent of men suffer from migraines. Acute and prophylactic therapies are ineffective for many and a long-acting, well-tolerated, prophylactic therapy is needed.
Botox can be injected into the forehead and temple muscles. In testing, response was scored as complete (elimination of headaches); partial improvement (at least 50 percent reduction in frequency or severity of headaches) and non-responders (less than 50 percent reduction in frequency or severity of headaches, or lost to follow-up, which exceeded on year.
96 patients (average age 41.6-9.0 years) were treated: 49 (51percent) had complete improvement; 27
(28 percent) had partial improvement; 20 (21 percent) had no response. Average dose was 25.7 units
and benefits persisted for six months for complete responders and four-five months for partial responders. Those with partial response had more frequent headaches at baseline compared to the complete responders. Adverse effects were limited to transient local pain at the injection site and Ecchymosis.
BTX-A is a safe, effective therapeutic for Prophylactic Treatment of many cases of migraine. |
